The Duke Basketball Phenomenon

Though you'll never see them actually in the stands at a game, there are many random rednecks that are huge Duke basketball fans. This despite the fact that they've never set foot in Durham, NC and the fact that you could walk every inch of Duke's campus and not find a single pickup truck.

 
Ironically, none of these folks are Duke football fans. Instead, they follow an Alabama, Florida State, Florida, or LSU. This breaks the golden rule of being a college sports fan - you can't pick and choose different schools for different sports.

We have nothing against Blue Devils basketball, but the atmosphere at Duke University just doesn't seem to jive with the down home, country lifestyle our yonder friends profess to know and love.

 

The Duke Basketball Phenomenon has always perplexed us. It's something we can't explain. We've never been able to wrap our minds around the fact that so many country folk are so passionate about something that is so categorically un-country.

As a good friend once said: "The only Duke them folks should be carin' about is Daisy Duke".
